Chimney Sweeping Across West Jordan
West Jordan grew up fast, and it grew up metal. Whether you have a masonry flue or a factory-built one changes almost everything about how the sweep should be done.
Brick is the exception in this city
Look at a roofline in almost any West Jordan neighborhood built after 1980. What reads as a chimney is usually a wood-framed chase wrapped in siding or stucco, with a double-wall metal flue running up the middle and a sheet metal lid over the top. The fireplace at the bottom is a factory-built firebox: a steel shell with refractory panels bolted inside it, not something a mason laid brick by brick.
That distinction decides how the sweep is done. Metal liners are smooth, so soot does not key into them the way it does into rough clay tile, but the wall is thin and a chimney fire warps it permanently. It also decides the tools. A stiff wire brush that is perfectly correct in a masonry flue will scratch the inside of a stainless liner and give next season's deposits something to grip.
Valley floor air changes how people burn
West Jordan sits low in the Salt Lake Valley, on the side where cold air pools and stays once an inversion sets in. The state calls mandatory no-burn days through those spells, so burning here tends to be feast or famine: nothing for ten days, then a long evening fire on the first clear night. Long, damped-down fires are the ones that coat a flue, because the smoke cools before it reaches the top and condenses on the way out.
Total hours burned is the wrong number to judge by. What matters is how cool the flue ran while it was working, and a household that only lights up on legal-burn evenings can still put down a full season of creosote.
How the visit goes
We seal the opening, run a HEPA vacuum for the whole time we are inside, and sweep with rods and a head matched to your flue type and diameter. You get photographs of the firebox, the panels, the liner joints and the top of the system, so the invoice is not the only record of what happened.
We will also tell you when sweeping is not the answer. If the refractory panels are cracked through, or the chase cover is running water down the outside of the liner, a clean flue fixes neither, and we would rather say so than book you again next year for the same complaint.

Our chimney is wrapped in siding rather than brick. Does a sweep still apply?
Yes. The flue inside that chase is a metal liner and it collects creosote the same way masonry does. It is thinner than brick, so a chimney fire in it does more permanent damage, which is an argument for looking more often rather than less.
We only burn a few nights each winter because of no-burn days. Is an annual sweep overkill?
Usually not. Occasional burning tends to mean long, slow fires rather than short hot ones, and slow fires are what glaze a flue. We would rather look and tell you it is clean than guess from the calendar.
Will you tell me if the firebox panels are failing?
That is part of the same visit. Factory-built fireboxes from the 1990s are now old enough that refractory panels crack and the joints between them open up. We photograph them and tell you plainly whether the unit is still safe to burn.
Ours is a 2004 build. Is a chimney that new worth worrying about?
The age of the house is not the question. The age of the last sweep is. A mid-2000s build with a well-used fireplace is often carrying more deposit than a 1978 one nobody bothers to light.
