Chimney Repair & Masonry

Tuckpointing, crown rebuilds and smoke chamber parging — masonry built to outlast Utah’s freeze-thaw.

Repair & Rebuild

Masonry That Shrugs Off January

Utah masonry lives a hard life. Water wicks into mortar joints, a January cold snap freezes it, and the ice wedges joints and crowns apart degree by degree. A few winters of freeze-thaw turns hairline cracks into spalling brick and a chimney that sheds chunks onto the roof.

We repair chimneys the way they should have been built: proper tuckpointing with matched mortar, crowns rebuilt with correct overhangs and drip edges, smoke chambers parged smooth for safer draft, and flashing sealed against wind-driven snow. From Avenues bungalows to Wasatch mountain cabins, our masons match brick and stone so repairs disappear.

Every job starts with a documented inspection, so you see the same damage we see before you approve a dollar of work. No scare tactics — just an honest scope and craftsman-grade repair. Mortar cures best above freezing, so we schedule rebuilds through the milder months and stabilize urgent damage any time of year.

Good Questions

Chimney Repair FAQs

How do I know if my chimney needs tuckpointing?
Look for mortar that is recessed, crumbly or missing between bricks, or small piles of sandy grit on the roof or in the firebox. From the ground, binoculars help. If you can flake mortar out with a key, the joints are due. We confirm everything with photos during an inspection.
Can a cracked chimney crown be repaired, or does it need rebuilding?
Hairline cracks caught early can be sealed with a flexible crown coating. Deep cracks, missing chunks or a crown that was poured flat without a drip edge usually mean a rebuild. We will show you photos and give you both options with honest pricing before any work starts.
How long does a chimney rebuild take?
A partial rebuild from the roofline up typically takes one to two days. A full rebuild with scaffolding can run three to five days depending on height, brick matching and weather. We schedule around Utah storms and keep the work area sealed and tidy the whole time.
