Chimney Sweep & Cleaning in Heber City
Annual creosote removal and a clean firebox before burn season.
Wasatch County · Utah
The heating season on this valley floor starts before most of the state has thought about it and finishes well after. A flue here does more work in a year than the same flue would down in the Salt Lake Valley.
What we do here
Below are the eight jobs we do locally. Start with whichever describes the problem you have.
Annual creosote removal and a clean firebox before burn season.
A documented Level 1 or Level 2 inspection, often for a home sale.
Crown, crack, tuckpointing and rebuild work after freeze-thaw damage.
A fireplace that will not light, smokes, or has stopped drafting.
A new insert, a full hearth remodel, or a first-time installation.
Gas log sets, inserts, pilot and valve service, and venting checks.
Keeping wind, snow, water and animals out of the flue.
Lint removal and airflow restoration, a real fire risk when neglected.
Almost everything we get called about in town traces back to hours burned. More hours means more deposit, more thermal cycling on the masonry, and more chances for the one crack that lets water in. That is the frame worth holding while reading the rest of this.
Creosote is not laid down at a steady rate. It is laid down fastest when the flue is cool, which means the start of every fire, every evening the damper is throttled down to make the load last, and every shoulder-season fire lit for atmosphere in a mild house. A household that burns from October into April accumulates a great deal of low-temperature burning, and low-temperature burning is the expensive kind. Sweeping annually is the usual advice; here, a heavy burner is reasonable to have the flue looked at partway through the season as well, and we will tell you honestly if it did not need it.
A chimney in daily winter use is warm inside and hard-frozen outside for months. The north and northwest faces of masonry in this valley get very little sun and stay cold, so any water that has soaked into brick on those elevations tends to stay there and cycle. That is where spalling shows up first, and it is why we walk all four faces of a stack rather than just the side you can see from the street. Older brick around the original downtown grid and the newer subdivisions on the edge of town both do it, though the newer builds more often have a metal flue inside a framed chase, where the same water goes somewhere much less forgiving than brick.
The practical constraint is scheduling. From the first hard cold snap onward every chimney company on the Wasatch Back is booked, and a fireplace that suddenly smokes stops being maintenance and becomes an emergency. Late summer and early fall we can be here in days. We are licensed and insured, and we would rather do this work while the fireplace is cold and nobody is waiting on it.

Questions
Old throat dampers leak heat even when 'closed.' A top-sealing replacement mounts at the flue top with a true gasket seal — it stops the drafts and typically pays for itself in heating savings on Heber City homes.
It's a tar-like byproduct of burning wood, and it's highly flammable — creosote is what actually burns in a chimney fire. Sweeping removes early-stage buildup; the glazed creosote we find in heavy-use Heber City flues needs professional remediation.
We consider it essential equipment in Heber City: caps shed rain and snow, keep birds and squirrels out, reduce downdrafts and stop stray embers. It's the lowest-cost insurance your chimney will ever get.
Yes — freestanding stoves, fireplace inserts and their connector pipes are daily work for our Wasatch County crews. In Heber City we sweep the full venting run, check clearances and gaskets, and verify the system drafts the way it should.
