Chimney Caps & Dampers

Keep rain, critters and canyon downdrafts out — and keep heated air in.

Caps & Dampers

Small Parts. Big Protection.

The top of your chimney is a hole in your roof — and everything Utah throws at a house knows it. Rain, snow melt, nesting birds and canyon downdrafts all head straight for an uncapped flue, while a warped or missing damper lets heated air escape all winter long.

We fit stainless and copper caps, replace rusted chase covers, and install top-sealing dampers that close with a gasket-tight seal — the single biggest efficiency upgrade most fireplaces can get. Every cap is measured to the flue and anchored to survive Wasatch wind, not just sit pretty.

Spark arrestors, animal guards, custom shrouds — if it keeps weather out and heat in, we install it, photograph it, and back it with the same full-circle care as every 360 job. Most cap and damper installs finish in a single visit, and every one ends with photos of the finished work up top — you’ll never have to take our word for what’s on your own roof.

How We Work

Measure. Fit. Seal.

Measure

We check flue size, crown condition and chase dimensions, then recommend the right cap or damper — not the priciest one.

Fit

Caps and covers are anchored to survive Wasatch gusts; top-sealing dampers are set square so the gasket closes tight every time.

Seal

We seal mounting points, test the damper cable from the hearth, and photograph the finished install for your records.

Good Questions

Cap & Damper FAQs

Why is rainwater getting into my fireplace?
The usual suspects are a missing or damaged cap, a cracked crown, or a rusted chase cover. Water then runs down the flue and shows up as a rusted damper, stained firebox or dripping sounds in a storm. We find the entry point, fix it, and fit a cap sized to your flue.
What is the difference between a throat damper and a top-sealing damper?
A throat damper sits just above the firebox and seals metal-to-metal, which leaks air even when closed. A top-sealing damper mounts at the flue top with a silicone gasket, sealing like a storm door. It keeps heated air in, weather and critters out, and typically pays for itself in energy savings.
How do I keep birds and animals out of my chimney?
A properly fitted cap with a mesh spark arrestor is the answer. Birds, raccoons and squirrels love open flues, especially in spring, and nests block draft and catch fire. If something is already living in there, we remove the nest, sweep the flue, and cap it so it cannot happen again.
